While DPF and EGR delete services are fairly well-known by diesel operators, UREA (sometimes referred to as SCR)  is a delete service that’s a bit more niche – and it’s ideal for agricultural and construction vehicles. SCR, or selective catalytic reduction, is a component designed to reduce the amount of emissions that enter the atmosphere. It works by injecting a urea and water mix–known as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF)–into the exhaust stream to turn emissions into nitrogen and water. However, there are a few notable problems with the SCR. One, there’s the need to purchase DEF at regular intervals. This is just one more overhead cost for which owner-operators and fleet managers have to worry. Secondly, there’s the fact that the SCR tends to be a problematic component due to corrosion and blockages that can occur in the system. Time is money, and fleet managers and operators are usually only making money when their vehicles are operational and producing. In the case of unexpected repairs, there’s a price to be paid – both for the repair itself and for the loss in productivity.
