Mercedes DPF Delete
The DPF, or diesel particulate filter, is a standard component on most diesel engine vehicles. Its purpose is to minimize the amount of exhaust contaminants that gets emitted into the environment. It accomplishes this by capturing the small soot particles produced, thereby preventing them from being released. While this all seems good, the problems with DPFs is the cleaning process. Because soot and other contaminants are captured by the DPF, the filter needs to be regularly cleaned. This isn’t done manually, but automatically via a process known as “regeneration.” Regeneration occurs when the DPF burns up the soot that it captures, something that’s done after reaching very high temperatures within the component itself. It occurs every 300 miles or so and can last for up to 45 minutes. Ideally, regeneration occurs when the vehicle has a chance to travel at the same speed consistently for about 15 to 30 minutes, as this allows it to reach the high temperatures necessary. For vehicles that are regularly stopping and starting, the DPF can be a real pain and lead to blockages within the component. Aside from these potential issues with the DPF, most also need to be replaced after the vehicle reaches a certain mileage milestone.
To prevent DPF issues from occurring, it is possible to have it regularly cleaned. It’s often easier and more convenient for owner-operators and fleet managers to just delete it though. At Diesel Spec, we perform DPF delete services on a variety of engine makes and models, including Mercedes. Here’s a look at the engines that we can perform the service on:

Benefits of DPF Delete
A DPF delete is beneficial for a number of reasons. These include:
- More power: One of the biggest negatives associated with the DPF is reduced engine power. That’s because engine power is somewhat restricted by the filter. Hence, removing it can lead to an increase in engine efficiency and effectiveness.
- Better fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is one of the biggest winners when it comes to a DPF delete. This is largely because more fuel is injected into the engine for the regeneration cleaning process to occur – and this leads to wasted fuel and lower miles per gallon. Deleting the DPF eliminates the necessity for regenerative cleaning, which thereby helps a vehicle conserve more fuel.
- Less repair costs: When the DPF gets clogged, it’s the engine that may suffer the most. Problems may become so severe that the engine has to regularly be serviced, increasing downtime and cutting into a company’s bottom line. A DPF delete won’t just help an engine run better and more efficiently, it will also likely help owner-operators and fleet managers save money on repair costs over the long term.
