Detroit Diesel DPF Delete
One of the main competitive advantages of doing business with Diesel Spec is that we know diesel engines like no other. In fact, we know diesel so well that we consider ourselves experts when it comes to engine tuning and specialty delete services on the widest range of makes and models. One of the diesel engine makes that we’re proud to offer DPF, or diesel particulate filter, delete services on is none other than Detroit Diesel. While this page is designed to serve as an overview of our capabilities and how a DPF delete can help your vehicle or fleet, we encourage you to contact us today for more information.

The Benefits of Detroit DPF Delete
The diesel particulate filter is designed to reduce harmful soot and exhaust contaminants from entering the atmosphere. That’s why it has become a standard component on most diesel engine vehicles. However, this component is also very problematic because the DPF needs to be cleaned once every 300 miles or so to properly remove contaminants and ensure the filter doesn’t clog. The DPF isn’t cleaned manually; instead, it’s cleaned automatically via a process known as “regeneration.” In order for regeneration to occur, however, the vehicle needs to be traveling at a speed of over 45 miles per hour for a consistent 15 to 30 minutes or so. That’s because enough heat needs to be generated for the process to occur, and the process lasts for several minutes. Based on these factors that are needed for regeneration to occur, the DPF is often difficult to clean. This is especially true for vehicles that normally don’t travel at consistent speeds for elongated periods of time. And when regeneration cannot occur, problems arise. These problems can impact the engine components and the engine itself (not to mention the DPF).
With all this being said, there are several benefits to having DPF delete performed:
- Better fuel economy: When regeneration occurs, excess fuel is used to “burn” the particulates that have accumulated in the filter. Hence, deleting the DPF almost always leads to a noticeable improvement in fuel economy.
- Better engine performance: To a certain extent, the DPF restricts engine performance.
- Fewer maintenance costs: In addition to the havoc a clogged or heavily soiled DPF filter can wreak on the engine and the engine components, it can also require the complete replacement of the DPF itself. These are all unnecessary maintenance costs that users and fleet managers can save on with DPF delete.
